A.’s and my first couple ‘dates’ were by video chat, because we didn’t yet know whether we could meet in person, due to the restrictions on movement that had been advised by the government and media. Eventually we did meet, not long after, when people had begun wearing masks outside and maintaining a 6-foot distance. We met in a park in Greenpoint, in Brooklyn, on a sunny day in April. I remember sitting on a bench together and laughing.
