I imagine there are some who might object, I should say, to the way I mentioned ‘therapy’ a couple entries ago; and perhaps I should’ve made a distinction between, say, recreational drugs and medically prescribed pharmaceuticals, but generally I think the characterization is correct. We have become so inured to the idea of therapy as ‘self-care’, rather than as an integration of the self with reality, that we have lost a proper sense of the human condition, in which some experience of unpleasantness and suffering is appropriate, and not necessarily to be avoided, or benumbed.
