I recall the parable of the ‘Wise and Foolish Virgins’, from the Gospel of Matthew, in this respect. All that is necessary, says Jesus, as we await the Master’s return, is that we keep our lamps ‘filled with oil’. Meaning, remain in a state of grace. Or obtain to such a state, and then remain there. Or return to it if we fall away.
