The angel in the picture and in the holy card is a visualization of an element in the spiritual world. And as such it is always going to be ‘wrong,’ or ‘inaccurate,’ or ‘fanciful.’ It is always going to fall short of its reality, in other words, because in reality it has no substance — it cannot be visualized. It is, as Thomas Aquinas would say, pure intelligence. It has a will and a spirit, but no body.
